
This week, U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker struck down Proposition 8, the voter-approved measure to ban same-sex marriage in California, saying the state has no interest in differentiating between same-sex and opposite-sex couples. Supporters of Prop 8 vowed to appeal the judge’s decision. While the battle over marriage rights is by no means over, this week’s ruling provides a major boost to supporters of same-sex marriage in California and nationwide.
