American law schools have traditionally produced graduates fluent in the language of the law and familiar with the cases and concepts taught in the classroom. But are students prepared for the ethical requirements of daily practice? Even more importantly, are they encouraged to think about their place in the profession?

California Western is on the leading edge of an emerging trend in American legal education. In response to several widely respected reports encouraging greater emphasis on skills training and problem solving, California Western developed STEPPS, a two-course program aimed at preparing students for the ethical and practical demands of a career in the law.
