WHAT: "Innovative Law Practice: Delivering Unbundled, Collaborative, and Preventive Legal Services to Expand Legal Access"
WHO: Forrest (Woody) Mosten, internationally acclaimed mediator, trainer, collaborative attorney, author, and certified family law specialist.
This three-day course is an overview of cutting-edge developments, lawyering roles, and practice skills that are necessary to prepare law students and attorneys for a successful career serving individual clients. It will explore the basic concepts, values, and perspectives of peacemaking, limited-scope representation, collaborative law, and preventive legal services. Participants will have classroom discussion and simulation role playing of key lawyering tasks such as: conducting a client interview to obtain informed consent for options to litigation, negotiating a Collaborative Law Participation Agreement that disqualifies the negotiating lawyers from later representing their clients in litigation, and conducting a personal legal wellness checkup with a middle-income client.
